Day Off From The Gym

So today I took a day off from the gym. Last night I got home from Zumba at 7:30 & didn’t eat dinner until 8:30… finishing at 9pm. Chris and I had to go to sleep early because he had an early flight. [I am now realizing if you don’t follow my other blog you have no idea what I’m talking about. This will soon be addressed!]

Anyway, by 9pm I was still netting only about 850 calories for the day [even though I had eaten over 2000]. What can I say… Zumba is one of the best cardio workouts I get! So I was drinking a ton of water & snacking on peanut butter & almond milk until we went to sleep. Of course I wasn’t tired. My body was amped & fueled. I hated that. It was absolutely a mistake. But unavoidable I suppose at the time.

So I turned the television on & watched for an hour. But for that hour, and the half hour that followed, I got out of bed every 15 minutes to pee. The liter of water from the workout followed by all the dinner water was finally working its way out of my body.

Awesome. So instead of being well rested this morning, I was crabby & tired. I went back to sleep & decided the world would most likely not end if I did not make my Spin & Pilates class at 8:30.

I honestly only mildly regret it. It’s a gorgeous day outside. I’ll probably take my pups for a walk, go to the park, do something. Then maybe come back & stretch & do a little interval workout or start that jumping jack challenge I posted!

Tomorrow I will be back at the gym for AT LEAST Zumba at night and possibly 30 minute 6 pack abs in the morning.

Boot Camp Day 2 : Analysis

I started with “Fit Pump” at 8:30 am today.

And it kicked my ass. Literally. It was an all-over body work out, but I feel it most in my legs, obliques, & tush! I actually busted a sweat.

It was the weirdest feeling. No matter how hard I work, my body has not been able to sweat. The doctor told me this was related to my heart. It pumps somewhat in-effectively at times.

I really feel that all the cardio work I’ve been putting in has had an effect on lowering my heart rate [not by much]. Seriously you’d have no idea I was in shape if I told you about my heart rate.

But I sweat. I sweat a lot. I have serious trouble holding planks for too long, and I’m getting much better at push-ups.

It was basically an all over calisthenics work out that was super intense, instructed by a tiny little woman who is muscle-on-bone, and who gives the best, most effective workouts.

Good news! She is the instructor for my spin class at 9:30!

So for another hour, I let this little mother-of-three torture my body. I’ve never had sore obliques before. But I dominated this spin class, even though I struggled in her earlier class at times.

I felt a deep burn in my inner thighs, obliques, and tush. It was amazing. I almost felt like I was actually sweating the pound-age off my body.

So even though these boot camp-esque, multi workout days are kicking my tush, I know they’re going to be the best thing for me. Especially while I have the time to do them!

Look at those legs… and I happen to adore that bike. I love beach bikes.

Oh wait, my boyfriend got me one of those :)

Boot Camp Days 1 & 2

I didn’t post yesterday, but since I’m maximizing my time at the gym for the next few weeks, I was very busy!

[My] Boot camp is more or less simply taking advantage of my time & the classes offered at my gym.

Day One: [ Yesterday ]

  • 8:30a-9:30a : Zumba
  • 9:30a - 10:30a: Spin
  • Awesome benefits: I got to pretty much eat as much as I wanted because by 10:30 I had over 1100 calories of exercise under my belt, combined with a minimum of 1200 net calories I make myself eat daily.

Day Two [Today]:

  • 8:30a-9:30a: “Fit Pump” [Calisthenics… dead lifts, push ups, abs, squats, resistance strength work outs]
  • 9:30a-10:30a: Spin
  • I’m probably going to do bursts of Jumping Jacks [found a great challenge] or a mini video as well.
  • There is a dessert party tonight at a friend’s house… homemade ice cream is the main dish… grr. I will be allowing myself to have a scoop.

    Personal.

I need to start making this blog more personal. So here goes.

Yesterday I did spin class for the first time. Woot. I had been intimidated by it for the longest time. It did not look like something I was capable of doing, but I did it! And this spurred my long distance work-out buddy to do the same :) It’s definitely something I plan on sticking with.

I’ve also been eating better. I’ve been eating “healthy” since March 1st, but I was a little too low on calories I found out [budget: 930 net]. Now I’m attempting to net 1200 by the end of the day.

Unfortunately I don’t think my body has adapted to this change, causing me to gain a pound rather than lose.

Also I don’t know what I’m doing wrong that everyone else seems to be doing right. I keep seeing people progressing after 3-4 weeks where my body seems to be stuck at the same level.

My muscles feel stronger & I can notice a slight difference in leg tone. But honestly, not too much. And of course I notice it. I’m the one killing them at the gym every day!

But I definitely know I have to be patient. This is being done the healthy way. So who knows.

I’ve started taking vitamins. Fish Oil 2x a day, Biotin 1x a day, Probiotic Acidophilus 2x a day, & AcaiTrim 2x a day. I also bought Flaxmeal for an extra punch of Omega 3 but have yet to try it.

Basically in 4 weeks I have yet to lose a solid 2 pounds. My body isn’t completely out of shape, and I don’t have a lot of fat on me. I’ve been told that will be difficult to lose.

So I’m upping my workout regimen. Stay tuned for that post :)

Tomorrow I am taking my first spin class. I’ve decided that I need to suck up my fear and intimidation of the class. I’m absolutely still intimidated though.

Does anyone here go to a spin class and have any suggestions/tips/stories?
